Giulia Caminito and Tommaso Giartosio announced the five nominees for the 13th European Strega Prize. All five books will be presented at the Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino, and the Award ceremony will take place at the Fondazione Circolo dei lettori on May 17th at 6:30 pm.
Five recently translated writers who have won important national accolades in their countries of origin are competing: five voices representing different traditions, literary and linguistic areas, and five ways to explore the possible latitudes of the contemporary novel. Thanks to a donation from BPER Banca, the translator of the winning book will also receive an award.
The European Strega Prize was established in 2014 during the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union to raise awareness on some of the most original and relevant voices in contemporary fiction, as a moment of dialogue and unity beyond the borders that delimit our nations.
