Catalan Literature Today

News and Translation Opportunities

On Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 4 to 5 p.m., the Institut Ramon Llull, in collaboration with the Italian Publishers Association (AIE) and the Turin International Book Fair, will host the seminar Catalan Literature Today. News and Translation Opportunities, providing valuable insights for Italian publishing professionals.

Lively and diverse, Catalan publishing has seen its international visibility increase over time, as evidenced by Barcelona’s participation as Guest of Honour at the Guadalajara International Book Fair 2025. It maintains a reciprocal, ongoing exchange with Italian publishing across all major sectors, from children’s and young adult books to fiction and non-fiction.

To support Italian publishing houses in exploring this vibrant market, the webinar will offer an insightful overview of contemporary Catalan fiction and practical tools for rights acquisition and translation, empowering participants with valuable resources from the Institut Ramon Llull. Speakers include Izaskun Arretxe, Director of the Literature Department at the Institut Ramon Llull, who will present the institute and the resources available to Italian publishers—such as promotional materials, support programs, grants, and calls for proposals—and David Guzmán, cultural journalist and literary critic, who will highlight some new Catalan fiction that has the potential to penetrate the Italian publishing market. Paola Seghi (AIE) will introduce the meeting.

In the spirit of mutual dialogue, next semester AIE will organise a seminar presenting Italian publishing, dedicated to Catalan publishers.

The seminar will be held online via Zoom in Italian. Registration is required here.
